Storms swept through Oklahoma City area on Friday generated an EF5 tornado and violent flash floods. The tornado was the widest one ever recorded it was 2.6 miles long.
Oklahoma emergency officials have said many of those who died in Oklahoma City were drowning victims who were swept away while taking shelter from the tornado in storm drainage ditches.
Nine of the 20 victims died from blunt force injuries typical from flying debris in tornadoes. The cause of death for two of the victims is listed as drowning. The storm broke the record held by a 2.5 mile wide Hallam, Nebraska tornado.Researchers dont know why the tornado got as big and powerful as it did and its strength wasnt immediately apparent as it went through a rural area leaving few of the physical clues that help determine wind speeds.

The twister was originally rated an EF 3 before  measurements after boosted the storms rating to EF5 the highest possible.The huge funnel that tore through El Reno was also made up of multiple smaller tornadoes rotating like horses around a merry go round one scientist said. But no one knows what gave them there strength.Severe flooding was the big issue Saturday as officials began surveying damage from tornadoes that hit the Oklahoma City metro area Friday killing 9 and injuring more than 100 people.The storm the second fatal one to strike the region in 11 days made several tornadoes toppled cars and left commuters trapped on an interstate highway during Fridays evening rush. Law enforcement officers and Red Cross workers headed to hard hit areas after dawn to assess the damage.The storm also brought heavy rain and hail. Floodwaters topped 4 feet in Oklahoma City early Saturday and were expected to rise as flash flooding continued in parts of the state. Across east and central Oklahoma repeated rounds of thunderstorms have produced between 4 to 7 inches of rain since midnight Saturday.Some highways were still closed because of downed powerlines.The storm hit El Reno hard which was a city that was hit hard from the weeks tornadoes before and 20 people died there.

The FBI knew Sunday night that the Boston Marathon bombers planned a large Times Square finale to their lethal terror spree but left the NYPD in the dark for days.Dzhokhar revealed that New York City was next on their list of targets Mayor Bloomberg said at a news conference Thursday. Hours after the explosion hundreds of firefighters and first responders were still fighting the fire in the small town."They are still getting folks out they are evacuating people from their homes" The police Sargaent said." The two sides dont agree on the severity of the actions and Oregon will appear before a special judge sometime. The case centers around Willie Lyles who was paid 25,000 dollars for recruiting help from 2008 to 2011.

The range of suspects and motives remain wide open the FBI says. The video which was shown by former director of player development Eric Murdock who played 9 years in the NBA featured Rice hitting , kicking, grabbing,  throwing basketballs from point blank range, yelling homophobic slurs and cursing at players. Murdock said a former lithunain player was abused the most which caused him to transfer to the University of Rhode Island. Athletic Director Tim Pernetti said " I am responsible for the decision to rehibilitate coach Rice". Rice was suspended in December for 3 games and fined 50,000 thousand dollars, but Pernetti said "Dismissal action was thought of in December but I thought it was the best intrest to rehabilitate. She went into the jail without a attorney and her bond is 1 million. Donald Bullock is the testing coordinator at another countys school turned himself in a little after 6. Tameka Goodson was the school improvement specialist and walked into the jail at 12:30 am her bond is 200,000.Thirtyfive people including former superintendent Beverly Hall must surrender Tuesday.

Some restaurants are buying smaller sizes other places like dunkin donuts are telling customers they have to sweeten there own drinks.Some places arent doing anything and are just going to wait it out. A judge has put a halt on the drink ban atleast for a little while. Bloomberg said it "ridiculess". Starbucks said it will still offer 20 ounce drinks and bloomberg said thats ridicouless also. He said its in the countrys intrest to get rid of sugary drinks and empty calories. Its totally your choice he said were not banning anything.

One of the NFLs greatest all time running backs says the long term effects of concussions are likely being exaggerated.Everybody blames everything on concussions Herschel Walker told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday. The NFL has a problem. It has to determine the difference between the effects of concussions and depression. If players lose their money or wife or children because of what theyre doing, theyll act different. But you cant throw everything on concussions.Walker who suffered a concussion while playing at Georgia before he won the 1982 Heisman Trophy works with the U.S military in efforts to treat soldiers who had concussions. And he chronicled his own mental health issues in his 2008 memoir breaking free in which he discussed dissociative identity disorder  known as so called multiple personality disorder.There are 3500 former players suing the league over concussions saying they didnt protect them from long term affects. Some players like Junior Seu have even died  or killed themselves and their familys have given their brains for study.

A gunman killed four people on a shooting spree in upstate NY in two seperate villages which led to a intense manhunt. The authorities said it was Kurt Meyers who lived in Herkimer and Mohawk for four years which are on each side of the Mohawk River. Students in schools were made to stay inside. New York superintendant said the first shots were fired at Johns Barber shop were the gunman fired his shotgun a few times and it hit four people killing 2. The shops owner and another customer were hospitalized. He then drove across the river and shot and killed 2 others one being a NY state corrections officer. People described him as a loner and he supposedly set a fire at his house before it.

He made a joke about him being chosen while speaking off the balcony and also asked people to pray for him and former Pope benidict who resigned.

According to Alaska Public Telecommunications the 53 year old Seavey crossed the finish line at 10:39 p.m local time on Tuesday  2:39 a.m eastern time Wednesday.It has checkpoint to checkpoint coverage of the race The Daily News says Seavey and his team of sled dogs finished the 1,000-mile race in 9 days 7 hours 39 minutes 56 seconds. His team was led by Tanner a 6 year old  orange brown husky.Before this the oldest musher to have led his team to victory was Jeff King. He was 50 when he won the race in 2006, the Daily News says.Seavey and his son Dallas are now the oldest and youngest winning mushers in Iditarod history. Dallas Seavey was 25 when he won the race in 2012. Mitch Seavey has won the Iditarod twice. His other victory was in 2004.

president Hugo Chavez died of a massive heart attack after great suffering and quitly mouthed his desire to live the head of Venezuela's presidential guard said late Wednesday.He couldn't speak but he said it with his lips I dont want to die. Please dont let me die because he loved his country he sacrificed himself for his country," Gen. Jose Ornella told The Associated Press.The general said he spent the last two years with Chavez, including his final moments, as Venezuela's president of 14 years battled an unspecified cancer in the pelvic region.Ornella spoke to the AP outside the military academy where Chavezs body lay in state. He said Chavezs cancer was very advanced when death came but gave no details.Ornella did not respond when asked if the cancer had spread to Chavezs lungs.
